Can I create a custom flavor?

100% yes! That’s what we do, custom. Our menu is here to make things easy, and to give you an idea of how we build our flavor components. Have a favorite dessert? We can take that flavor to cake. The possibilities are endless.

How far in advance should I order my cake?

There are a few factors here, but the more time we have to prepare, the finer the detail. For weddings we advise at least 8 months notice or before current wedding season begins. For special occasion cakes and confections, at least 2-4 weeks is ideal.

What is a mixed media cake?

Mixed media simply means we use different mediums. While our cakes are built with buttercream, we do a lot of fondant work as well, and the theme or idea of your cake will adjust our suggestions. Our favorites are cakes iced in buttercream but have fondant and other accents. We love to garnish our cakes with wafer paper, chocolate, and isomalt amongst other mediums. Mixed media cakes are subjected to additional costs.

Are you a ‘scratch’ baker?

There’s no other way! All our cakes, fillings, everything, is made from scratch. We are constantly thriving to learn new techniques and challenge ourselves everyday.

Do you deliver?

We do, and we drive nice and slow with the precious cargo! We currently charge $2.5 per mile round trip for 3+ tiered wedding & event cakes. Single tier & 2 tier cakes delivery is not guaranteed upon booking. Please note larger events have delivery priority but we will try to accommodate each inquiry best we can.

What dietary restrictions and allergies do you accommodate?

We will not let you miss out on all things cake! However, we do work with various flours, nuts, and dairy in our facility. I personally have been ServSafe certified for 15 years, and take cross contamination very serious. Please note that certain techniques may be required & flavors may be limited. No Vegan baking, but gluten / nut / soy can be accomodated.

How much do the cakes cost?

Each quote is custom based. It all starts with cost of ingredients, level of technique needed, and of course labor time. Fondant work, sugar work, chocolate work, floral work and cake staging are all factors in the custom cake price. We are making updates for 2024, price upon request & price guide coming soon.

Does my cake flavor affect the visual aesthetic of the cake design?

Nope! The outside of the cake is designed differently from the inside. Regardless of the flavor, the outside of our cakes are usually built with a Ganache & Vanilla Bean Buttercream to achieve certain design aesthetic & technique.

How do you go about designing the cakes?

We thrive for more contemporary cake designs, especially for weddings. Inspiration photos are always welcome but we will not replicate. From there we will suggest certain techniques & designs, and ask for more details about the recipients or occasion. We get most of our inspiration from fashion, natural elements, and modern architecture.

Can I schedule a consultation/tasting?

Tasting schedule is held January through March only. We offer in person and pick-up options. We advise you to gather as much inspiration as you can before we meet and love to hear all the little details of the big day! Please also keep your eyes out on our social for tasting pop-ups through out the year in case you missed regular season!

Do you stage the cake at events?

We offer a few packages here ranging between $75-$250 starting costs. All rentals are the couples responsibility to return within 7 days or will be charged for rental fee plus price of items. If there is a specific look you are going for that we don’t already have, we are happy to take on those shopping responsibilities for you. Wether it includes cake stands, designing dessert menus, finding the perfect custom cake topper or decorating your entire table.

Best way to store my top tier?

Don’t! Although we are suckers for tradition, we think your love should only be celebrated with top shelf quality, aka fresh cake! That’s why on your 1st Anniversary we offer services for a mini anniversary cake if your wedding was booked through Big Fish Cake Studio. You’ll also have the option to order a pre frozen tier to save in the traditional manner.

What is the ‘lock-out’ phase?

After signing a contract with Big Fish Cake Studio, you would have agreed to a lock-out phase that begins 30 days before your event. This simply means we do not accept any changes to your dessert plans so that we can start our purchases, planning, and production. It also allows you to just consider it done! Final invoice will also be sent at this time.

Google, The Knot, & the Wedding Wire are our main platforms for reviews & traffic! We would appreciate it so much, and including professional photos is a plus!

Are you connected with any other vendors?

We have a lot of friends in the industry, especially in our near-by towns. We have our go-to’s for sure! We are happy to connect you with them as we love working closely together and supporting local vendors.
